I don't know about you, but I just love color and when I make candles a lot of my concentration goes on color. If I am using just the one color I like to blend shades of the same color. A real favorite of mine though, is to use a glass as my candle making mold because the sheen of the glass really sets of the color of the wax.
Another feature of using glasses for your moulds is because you can see exactly what you are doing as you go. For example, if you want to layer colors you can see how the layers are going as you pour the wax.
There is another way I like to work with the glass and that is by rolling the wax around the outside of the glass and thereby making a very freeform effect. This takes a bit of practice and there needs to be some consideration given to the colors that you would combine, but it can be very effective. Three colors I like are brown, orange and purple. The colors sound a bit odd don't they, but they work really well together. Care just needs to be taken not to blend the colors but layer them.
Glass molds
There are many different shapes of glasses and even some are frosted and this can add quite a unique effect to your finished product.
One thing to make sure of is that the glass is not too thin. If it is there is the danger that it could break when heating or filling, but also when the wax has melted during the burning period.
Glass candle making molds can often be safer than just standing a candle on a candle base or plate, but even with glass molds care still has to be taken so that it does not tip over. Remember to heat them from cold to 115 before pouring in the wax if you are going to use glass moulds.
Glass candle making moulds really make your homemade candles look wonderful, especially if you are going to use them for candle gifts. Make a set of 3 or 5 candles and they will look stunning laid out in a box presentation.
If you have never tried making candles in glass molds before you will be so happy with the result, but you do need to know how to do it so that there are no nasty accidents. It's not really too difficult, but there are a few things to do right.
