Recognizing Rare Stamps

Believe it or not, investing in rare stamps is a normal occurrence. Usually, the collection and gathering of rare stamps is a hobby that is better appreciated by the advanced collectors.

Unbelievably, rare stamps are investments that are of the tangible kind. Compared to art they are also a worthwhile and enjoyable investment especially for enthusiasts.

First things first, the fact is that rare stamps are really, definitely very rare. But what is it that makes a stamp rare?

The following are some of the reasons as well as circumstances that makes a stamp that rare, expensive stamp that everyone would want to own.
The mother of all rare stamps

Believe it or not, there exists the stamp that would be considered as the mother of all rare stamps and quite possibly the stamp that - if given the chance - would be the one to rule them all.

The stamp that costs one cent is the British Guiana. This stamp is currently considered as the most rare stamp in the whole world because only one of such kind was made. This stamp was reportedly discovered by a school boy back in the year 1873.

Another valuable rare stamp is called the Penny Black where it is also considered as a very rare and valuable item for collectors.

The father of all rare stamp collectors

A man with the name Philipp von Ferrary who lived during the years 1850 until 1917 was considered to be the collector of all collectors when he was able to amass stamps from all places in the world.

Ferrary, as he was fondly called by his clients and almost everyone, began the hobby of colleting stamps when he was young. Since he was able to inherit a great fortune, he made it his life long quest to buy stamps that are rare.

In the fifteenth of January, 1915, he relegated to the Berlin Postmuseum his collections. But since he was an Austrian - who at that time was residing in France during the first world war - he left his albums to the embassy of Austria and left for Switzerland where he soon died.

Post world war one brought on the government of France to confiscate his collection. Since then, most rare stamps have a stamp of "ex-Ferrary" on them, because almost always, the stamps may have previously belonged to him.

Rare stamps found in a dresser

You know you have in your possession a rare stamp when people are suing you for them to have it back.

It was one hundred and fifty thousand dollars worth of stamps that a judge granted the stamp's original owners when it was found that it was included in the dresser a Robert Ganter bought in a used store that sells furniture.

The original owners discovered Ganter's find when the latter issued an ad in a stamp catalogue for collectors and offering it up to be sold.

Buying rare stamps is a cinch

So how I one supposed to buy rare stamps when they see one? The best method is by simply buying the best stamp that one could possibly afford.

New rare stamps recently unveiled in Asia
Beginning April of this year, stamps that highlight Vietnam's birds, specifically the partridges as well as pheasants of the country was launched in Vietnam's Ministry of Post and Telecommunication.

These rare stamps provide the people who live in Vietnam with a magnificent documentation of how the country's birds thrive. The birds that were included in the stamp include a partridge whose neck is range in color, its scientific name is arborophila davidi. Other birds in the stamps include lophura hatinhensis or the more popularly known Vietnamese pheasant.

Why are these birds featured in such a stamp series? For one, putting their pictures on a stamp is one way to immortalize their existence as they are currently considered as endangered. Their populations have been slowly dwindling due to the loss of their natural habitat as well as hunting.

What do the stamps represent then? The series also aims to showcase the varied and special life that Vietnam's birds live.

All in all, collecting rare stamps is a fun, enjoyable and interesting activity to do especially if rare stamps are your cup of tea.

RC helicopters for beginners

RC helicopters for beginners

So youve now decided to pick up flying model machines as a hobby but dont know where to start. Understanding the complex working of an remote control helicopter can be a little daunting even for the more experienced flier. The terminology and mechanics can prove to be difficult to understand. The best option, just like learning any skill is to start small and work your way up. Dont try and read every single text you can find on the subject as it is best learned on the go.

When you go to the hobby store dont be led into a buying an expensive piece of machinery just because the seller said its the best on the market. Generally speaking, the more expensive the RC helicopter the more difficult it is to use. The last thing you want is a crashed and permanently damaged craft. These are best for a flier with previous experience. Same goes for the tools. Avoid buying every single tool you can afford because you think you will need them at some point.

As a beginning RC helicopter flier, the best option is to start with a simple electric aircraft. These are powered by a rechargeable litho battery. Because they dont use fuel, there are no emissions to worry about and you can even fly them indoors on those rainy days. Electric models are light, user friendly and have an approximate flying time of about 7-12 mins. Not only are some of them small enough to fit in your hand but they are also easy to use. If you want to perform back to back flights without having to wait for your battery to charge then invest in several battery packs.

When starting out, select a fixed pitch (FP) model. The blades on this type of RC helicopter remain at a fixed angle. As the rotor picks up speed and rotates faster the helicopter rises. An FP version is much cheaper than other types due to the simple nature of its design. Thanks to the simple nature of design, they are also easy to fix yourself in case of any damage. Be sure to buy a ready to fly aircraft as they are ready to use straight out of the box without any further assembly.

Just like any other skill, practice makes perfect. So put in the hours learning how to make simple left, right, upwards and downwards movements. The faster you can master these simple tasks the faster you can work your way up to a more complicated craft. Unfortunately, with a simple electric RC helicopter, you cannot do complex maneuvers like loops. But dont worry, once you have upgraded your craft you can then be able to perform these just like a professional.

Do your research on the cost of an aircraft from different toy or hobby stores. Alternatively you could search online as these sellers sometimes tend to offer lower prices. Now that you know a little bit of the basics, get out there and start flying.

Rainy Day Crafts for Kids

Bad weather days can keep your kids indoors, but television isn't the only answer to inactivity. Simple and fun craft projects that can be done with items you probably have around the house can easily become a fun family activity!

Edible Jewelry. This is a very creative and fun way to play with your food! You will need shoe string licorice (not the rope style, as the licorice will be the string) and goodies that have some sort of hole in them. Example would be: Cheerios, pretzels, gummy lifesavers, mini donuts and dried apple rings. String the items along the licorice 'thread' and tie the two ends together. You can make necklaces and bracelets!

Edible play dough. If you have young ones who tend to eat their play dough - this is a nice alternative. Mix together one half cup of honey, one half cup of smooth peanut butter and one cup of dried milk powder. Mix until you have the dough consistency you like, adding more powdered milk if it feels sticky. If you like, you can work in a few drops of food coloring at this stage. Then let the kids play with and eat it! This is meant for a single use, don't store this longer than one day.

Sponge stamps. For this, all you need is any type of sponges you can find. The more different the textures of sponges, the more fun the designs are. Just cut the sponges into different shapes with scissors. The kids can dip the sponge pieces into paint and create their own works of art. For more creativity, try gluing the sponge pieces onto a 3 inch paint roller.

Maracas. For home made maracas, all you need are paper plates, dried beans and tape. Give each child two paper plates. Have them color and decorate the bottom of the plates any way they wish. Fill one plate with about cup of dried beans, place the other plate on top, face down and tape together - making sure you seal all the way around. The hollow area creates the space for the beans to shake around and make noise!

Homemade clay. There are lots of recipes out there for homemade clay, this one is very easy, if a little messy! You will need, flour, 12 day old slices white bread (with the crusts removed), cup of white glue, food coloring. Tear the bread into chunks and put in bowl, add the glue and mix really well with your hand until it becomes a unified mass. Turn out onto a floured board and need until the clay is no longer sticky. You may need to add tiny bits of flour as you go. To color the clay, pull off a chunk and add a drop or two of food coloring. Knead well to incorporate the color. Let the kids form whatever designs they like, then air dry the pieces. It will take a day or two depending on how big the pieces are. Paint the dried clay designs if you like. Clean up with soap and water.

Quilting for Beginners - 3 Essential Tools

Quilting for Beginners - 3 Essential Tools

Today's quilters have many great tools at their fingertips. Over the years, the variety and quality of our tools has advanced the art of quilting considerably. For beginner quilters, this is great news. Here you will find 3 items that you absolutely have to have on hand as you begin your first quilting expedition. Don't underestimate the importance of purchasing these three seemingly simple tools correctly!

1. Thread

When it comes to quilting, particularly you as a beginner quilter, there is a plethora of thread choices out there, and you will want to choose the right thread for your project.

For instance, if you are piecing your blocks, you'll want to choose an all-purpose, mercerized thread, but if you've chosen to appliqu, then silk or cotton thread would be better.

On the other hand, when you appliqu with a quilting machine use buttonhole twist or nylon monofilament if you want invisible stitching. You could also use metallic thread to create special appliqu effects.

When you are actually doing the quilting, you should use an extra-strong hand-quilting thread with a polyester core. And when machine quilting you can use all-purpose thread for normal stitching or buttonhole twist for more visual contrast.

2. Scissors

Beginner quilters take heed: two pair of scissors is essential - one for fabrics only, the others for everything else. The reason for this is that cutting paper, cardboard, and other materials can dull the scissors considerably, and you want them super sharp for cutting the fabric. It's probably a good idea to mark these scissors so that you know which ones are for cutting fabric.

Scissors will eventually dull, and when they do, you can usually take them to your local fabric or craft store to get sharpened.

If you are doing appliqu, it's also nice to have some thread and fabric snippers on hand if you are able. Make sure that these also are only used for fabric and thread in your quilting.

3. Needles, Pins and Pincushions
It makes perfect sense that as a beginning quilter you will want to have a variety of needles handy. A household assortment pack found in fabric stores will do very nicely for you.

When choosing your needles, remember that the smaller the number, the larger the needle.

Sharps are narrow and fine with small round eyes. These work well for hand piecing and appliqu. Sharps in size 8 or 9 work well for beginners at the quilting craft, but be sure the needle works well with your hand and finger size.

Here is some great news - there are actually needles out there for beginner quilters that are made specially to be easy to thread. They are made with slotted eyes that are easier to see. There are also needle threaders that you can have on handy that make it easier, particularly if you have vision issues.

Hand quilting needles are called 'betweens', and are fine needles that are generally shorter. They are made to be used for quilting and detailed handwork.

A size 8 is a great size for you to start out with as a beginning quilter, and then when you've got a few quilts behind you, you may want to graduate to a size 12, which is very tiny and narrow, but allows better control with stitching.

These days there are so many cool tools. I love the magnetic pincushions. Beside your pins and needles being more visible, you can move it over dropped needles and pins and it will pick them up for you.

Straight pins are a necessity for the beginning quilter, and you will also want to have some safety pins on hand. For machine quilters, they are quite useful for holding your quilt sandwich together. Get large nickel-plated safety pins that won't rust.

There are also special basting safety pins that you can get from quilting supply stores. These ones have a slight curve to them which helps to navigate the layers of the quilt.

Be sure that as a beginning quilter you are starting out right by having these essentials, and happy quilting to all!

Important! There are actually 7 other essential tools you need to purchase correctly as you begin your quilting adventure... to check out all 10 tools, visit us at our website below and find the proper tools now!

Quilling Projects - Greeting Cards

Pick a good quality cardstock in a solid color that is complimentary to your quilled pieces. Consider using a piece of foil or vellum as a front panel to further accent your quilling.

You can use rubber stamps to print your greeting, or you may experiment with various inks and paints to freehand the greeting. Be sure to use Jet Black solvent ink with your rubber stamp to ensure a clean, dark imprint.

Attach your quilled pieces to your card using small dabs of clear-drying glue. If the card might be framed, be sure to glue every piece well enough to ensure they will stay in place.

Creating a basic card decorated with quilled shapes should require scissors, tweezers, a rubber stamp of your choice, brushes or pens if you decide to freehand your greeting, and your glue applicator.

To begin this project, first decide on the size of your card. Next you need to decide on which quilled shapes you wish to use and the design for your card overall. You can arrange your quilling pieces on your board as a 'dry-fit', to make sure the arrangement will fit on the card attractively.

Next, decide which form of print you want to use for the greeting-stamp or freehand-and if then try both on scrap paper to make sure you can get the effect, or a clear imprint before going to the actual card. Once you feel comfortable with creating your greeting, do a final printing on the cardstock-then allow it to dry completely.

Now you are ready to apply your quillings. Have your tools ready-tweezers, scissors and glue applicator filled with glue. Carefully transfer each quilled shape from your 'dry-fit' area to the card, gluing each piece one-by-one, until all have been moved and glued to the card. Allow the work to dry completely. Before you move the card again, re-check all pieces to make sure your glue has set up and that all pieces are secured. Any quillings that seem loose should be carefully re-glued and then allowed to dry.

Your simple, yet beautifully decorated card is now ready to go to family, friends or anyone you wish to surprise with such a wonderful gift!

This basic card approach can be upgraded using a number of decorative techniques-adding beads, using a paper punch on paper overlays to expose the color of the underlying cardstock, using scribing tools to bring texture and depth to leaves-and many, many others. You will, undoubtedly, find techniques from other crafts that can be utilized in your quilled cards, or other, projects.

Private Landlord - How To Stop Your Tenant Skipping Off Leaving You With A Trail Of Damage

Private Landlord - How To Stop Your Tenant Skipping Off Leaving You With A Trail Of Damage

Occurrences of renters abandoning rental properties are on the increase and this is pretty much a global problem for private landlords. The state of the economies in many countries means that many renters are finding themselves in dire straits and the first problem becomes paying the rent.

Sometimes renters have to choose between paying the rent or putting food on the table for their families, no prizes for guessing who loses out.

Not paying the rent or paying it late is one thing but there are renters who not only don't pay the rent but who abandon rental properties and leave a trail of damage behind them.

For you as a landlord it leaves you with a huge headache, stress and financial loss, even if you can find the tenant your chances of getting any money out of them are about as likely as someone walking up to you in the street and giving you a million bucks.

So how can you prevent this from happening to you?

There are ways of dealing with bad renters, you have to establish a relationship with your renters, treat them respectfully and always in a business manner. After all renting property is a business not a hobby.

You have to make sure your renters understand you are running a business and while you may have every sympathy when they find themselves in financial difficulties, if they don't pay the rent on time, every time there are consequences. Let them know that your bank or financial lender won't give you any leeway if because they don't pay the rent you are unable to pay the loan.

Dealing with bad renters is one thing but the real key to preventing property abandonment is in finding the right renters in the first place.

You absolutely must do a full screening which means:-

* Verify the prospective tenants are who they say they are

* Verify their employment by talking to their employer

* Verify their previous rental history by talking to their previous landlord. Go back to several landlords if they have been short term renters, of course if they have a history of short term rentals this might raise a red flag too.

* Get a criminal background check done

* Get a credit check done .

* Check their references but be wary, references are easy to fake

Remember you can charge an application fee which will offset your costs of getting tenant screening reports.

Don't use telephone numbers for referees, employers etc. provided by the prospective tenant, look up the numbers in the phone book, that way you can be sure who you are talking to, and know it's not a friend or family member of the tenant pretending to be their employer, previous landlord or bank manager.

Successful landlords use a proven process for finding the right renters, I'm sure you don't want to be the next landlord referenced in the local paper that has a headline

"Tenants Leave Owners With A Trail Of Damage"

Pole Dancing - A profession and a hobby

There have been many activities that have transformed from profession to hobby. Nothing is much different for pole dancing too, which over the past couple of years has transformed significantly from just a profession to a hobby for many youngsters. As a result, there has been a rise in the popularity of pole dancing.

Gone were the days when the extremely vulgar usage of this habit used to dominate peoples mentality. What makes people opt for it as a hobby is that it makes them to remain in fit and healthy condition. To remain fit while pole dancing, nutritionists advise supplements to be taken, e.g. multivitamins. However, it is highly advised to first get the consultation with your doctor before getting the right multivitamin.

Along with dancing, there are few more activities that people can observe to remain healthy. But the intensity of the activities differs from person to person. One important factor that matters is the enjoyment and kinds of exercise people need to do. It is an exciting exercise that allows the dancer to burn his/her calories. The best part about pole dancing is that the dancer can enjoy himself/herself as it is not a boring exercise.

Many people consider walking to be a boring exercise and for those people, it is worthwhile to get indulged in pole dancing classed. Why not opt for something that is more exciting, and a fun way to do? Pole dancing is a good answer for this question as not only it is an interesting way to lose weight, but also time-consuming.

With all of the benefits mentioned above for this exercise, many fitness experts do not consider it to be a genuine way or burning fat. Moreover, there is a lot of clash amongst fitness experts when it comes to dancing on poles.

Many fitness experts consider this exercise to be providing with same benefits as a regular gym workout does. If you visit a gym, you would get to know that there are other exercises too that could be better than simply dancing on pole. However, if you specifically want training for this exercise, your instructors would advise you on the type of dress and shoes to be worn. Mostly, instructors request women to practice dancing with naked legs. Rest assured that this shall not be confusing for you if you really are interested in pole dancing. You can always wear a comfortable dress no the way to the gym and remove it to dance with naked legs once you reach for workout sessions.

I would not recommend anyone for this exercise until he/she is really committed to become an expert. This is because pole dancing is not the field of everyone. It is a different field that requires a lot of practice, time, and patience due to the nature of this workout. You might even have to sustain injuries during your entire workout.

Pneumonia and its causes, risk factors and diagnosis

There are are mechanisms to protect your lungs from infection at each stage of the respiratory stage, but because you are very much exposed to viruses and bacteria sometimes these mechanisms fail in protect your respiratory system and you develop pneumonia. The infectious agents are attacked by white blood cells and all the process determins inflammation and difficult breathing.
Varius types of pneumonia include: Community-acquired pneumonia that is aquired at school, work or the gym which may be mistaken with the acute eosinophilic pneumonia developed by soldiers. Nosocomial pneumonia which occurs in hospitalized people, especially in those who are on a mechanical ventilator, are in the intensive care unit or have a compromised immune system. This type is severe especially in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases or HIV/AIDS.

Aspiration pneumonia which has been described in a brain injury or other condition affects your normal gag reflex, when the content of the stomach is inhaled in your lungs after vomiting. Playing Drinking Games With Dice

Playing Drinking Games With Dice

Playing Drinking Games With Dice

Drinking games using dice are the most popular among drinkers in pubs where alcohol supply is endless. You can have a great time playing drinking games with dice as you drink the whole night long or you can be so drunk keeping up with your friends and end up paying for all the drinks when everyone leaves you behind! Anyway, here are some of the best drinking games using dice:

Threshold - is a classic dice game combined with a toss coin. You also need a colorful plastic cup and of course a LOT of drinks ready in small shots or cups. The first person to shake the glass places the coin and the dice together; shakes the glass and asks the first player to guess heads or tails. When the player guesses right, the person who shook the glass has to drink the number of shots on the die but when the player guesses wrong, she has to drink the number of shots on the die herself. This "drinking game" will be over when everyone is too drunk to continue or when the pub runs out of booze. Sweet Sixteen - you guessed it, player has to be 16 years old to join in. You need a lot of beer, a dice and every player's driver's license on the table. Have all the licenses faced down and the youngest player is the first to draw; she chooses one from the lot and the person chosen has to roll a die. The number drawn is the number of shots he has to take. The Three Man - another drinking game from Penn State University where everyone seems to come up with a creative drinking dice game or card game every semester. The game needs two dice and a lot of beer or whatever alcohol you want to play with but place drinks in small plastic cups. Three Man starts with everyone rolling a die, the guy who first gets a three is the IT. Here are the rules of this dice drinking game: 3 - The IT must drink and then passes his title to another person he choose. The game continues.

7 - The person to the right of the IT has to drink.

9 - Everyone playing has to drink.

10 - The person to the right of the IT has to drink.

Planting an Indoor Vegetable Garden

Planting an Indoor Vegetable Garden

Nothing beats the fresh wholesome taste of vegetables freshly picked from your own garden. Planting vegetable gardens can be a challenge if you don't have a backyard, but you can still grow vegetables indoors. Just follow a few simple garden-smart guidelines.

Choose Appropriate Vegetables

Different plants have different requirements and with indoor gardens the major restrictions tend to be available space and available light. If you want to grow fruit bearing plants, these will require large amounts of sunlight. Salad greens like lettuce, miniature cabbages, swiss chard, and spinach require less light and do quite well indoors.

The size of your pots will also determine your choice of plant, choose containers big enough for the plants full growth. Small root crops such as radishes and onions are great choices, and there are even small root carrots available. Herbs are a popular choice because they are compact and do not need much space. Miniature varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant can also thrive inside when given the proper care.

Find the Perfect Spot for Growing

As mentioned earlier, lighting is an important consideration for an indoor vegetable garden. A bright south-facing window is your best bet, but any spot that gets a minimum of 5 hours of continuous light can be used. In addition to natural light, you can set up supplemental artificial lighting if you are really serious about growing healthy plants.

Traffic flow is also another important factor to think about. Vegetables in general bruise easily so you want to choose fairly quiet spots so minimize accidental human contact. If you have small children or pets at home, you may want to locate your garden well out of their reach. It is also important to think about proximity to your gardening tools and easy clean-up if things get messy.

Optimize the Microclimate

Plants grow best in high humidity and moderate temperatures. Indoor gardens usually suffer from low humidity and this needs to be addressed. Container grown plants tend to dry out faster and will require more frequent watering. However, it is important not to let the plants get waterlogged as this may cause root rot. Make sure that there is good drainage by raising pots with a pan of gravel underneath. Evaporation from these dishes also improves humidity so they serve a dual purpose.

Another great way optimize your microclimate is to group plants together. You can mix your vegetables with more decorative houseplants to create groupings that are not only beautiful but also functional. Temperature is actually easier to control inside the house, as it is easy to provide more shade by simply drawing the curtains. Just make sure plants are protected from drafts.

Get Good Potting Soil

Potting soil for indoor gardens should drain well and contain the nutrients required to support growth and development. You can purchase premixed potting soil that already incorporates the proper amount of fertilizer. If you prefer to go organic, you can get organic potting mixes from your local garden shop. Add nutrients with caution, as fertilizer buildup is quite common in containers.

Planting vegetable gardens indoors can be incredibly rewarding, so do not be afraid to give it a try. You may even end up growing enough produce to give as gifts to delighted family and friends.

Perimenopause and Post-Menopause - Symptoms And Remedies

Perimenopause and Post-Menopause - Symptoms And Remedies

Perimenopause and Post-Menopause - Symptoms And Remedies

General description
According to Stedman's Medical Dictionary, menopause is defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation. It marks the end of a womans fertility and therefore, ability to conceive and bear children. Menopause is derived from the Greek words pausis -cessation and the word men -month. It means the end of monthly cycles

In the West, the typical age for attaining menopause is between the ages of 45 and 55 and the average age for last period ever is 51 years. In the East, however, the median age of natural menopause is considerably earlier, at about 44 years. Genetics has a lot to do with the age "when" menopause hits. If your grandmother got hers in the late 40s, chances are you will too.

Common symptoms
Common symptoms: Menopause, or the period after the last period, is marked by some physiological and psychological changes. The most well-known symptom of impending menopause is the "hot flash" or "hot flush", a sudden, temporary increase in body temperature. The "flash" sensation occurs as the body temperature rises sharply and almost instantaneously begins to slowly return to normal.

Along with the hot flushes is irregular, heavy, or prolonged periods and severe stomach cramps.

All of these combine to create mood swings and even depression.

Perimenopause problems
Perimenopause is the transitional period from normal menstrual periods to zero periods. This transition may take up to ten years. During the perimenopausal phase, you may experience a combination of PMS and menopausal symptoms. During this phase, many women undergo bodily changes resulting from hormonal fluctuation. Hot flashes may leave the sufferer feeling weak and break out in heavy sweating. Despite the discomfort, hot flashes are not considered harmful. Flashes can, however, be eased through Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and herbal remedies.

Common problems are

mood changes
changes in sexual desire
difficulty in concentrating
headaches
night sweats
hot flashes
sleep disturbances
joint and muscle aches
extreme sweating
frequent urination
similar symptoms as experienced with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Even women who are free of the troublesome physical effects of perimenopause may suffer from psychological stress. Many women feel they will no longer be desirable once menopause has set in.

Post-menopause problems
Once the last period of a womans life is over, many new problems crop up. Many women start experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance anywhere from their early 30s to their late 40s. Levels of estrogen and progesterone the essential female hormones - dip, triggering a range of problems.

Common problems are

Weight gain
Decreased sexual desire
Vaginal dryness
Increase in facial hair as testosterone is now able to exert more power
Incontinence as muscles surrounding the bladder weaken
Slowing down of mental processes
Reduced bone density

In the long term, post-menopausal women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis and more prone to heart attacks.

Herbal Supplements for Perimenopause and Post-Menopause

M2 TONE - M2-TONE is especially good for peri-menopausal menstrual disorders and irregular bleeding.

Evanova - for perimenopause, before menopause

Shatavari - Shatavari or Asparagus racemosus regulates hormonal secretion and maintains and nourishes female reproductive organs.

Coping with menopause
To relieve these symptoms, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is often recommended. But synthetic hormones often lead to breast cancer, strokes, heart attacks, and blood clots. More and more doctors recommend lifestyle changes and natural remedies to cope with menopause. These are primarily related to diet, exercise, and mental outlook.

Diet

Add soy to your diet. A half cup serving of soy milk and tofu gives out about 35 to 50 mg of soy isoflavones.
Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, spicy food to keep hot flushes under control.
Include herbal treatments such as ginkgo biloba, evening primrose oil, and black cohosh.
Have whole grains in your diet. Brown rice, corn, pasta, crackers and other whole grain foods contain antioxidants and multi-vitamins.
Include flax in your diet. Flaxseed lengthens the menstrual cycle. In doing so, it increases the estrogen-progesterone ratio and alleviates hot flashes. This is also rich in antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, and stabilizes cholesterol levels.
Cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli and brussels sprouts are good for you.
Green tea has antioxidants and phytochemicals. Three to six cups of green tea daily has reportedly contributed to weight loss.
Tomatoes and yellow fruits such as mangoes, oranges and vegetables like carrot are also recommended.
Drink lots of water
Consume at least three servings of low-fat dairy products every day for your daily calcium intake. Dark leafy greens are also a good source of calcium. This is important for building bone density.

Exercise
Exercise is particularly important for women as they age. Exercise is essential to the development of strong bones and a strong heart. Exercise, coupled with a healthy diet, helps to keep weight in check and contributes to a sense of well being and mood improvement. People who are not physically active tend to suffer with a variety of diseases such as coronary disease, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Depression, and even dementia, can be traced back to lack of physical activity.
Your routine should include:

Walking
Yoga for flexibility/toning
Weights for building bone density

A word of caution: consult your doctor before starting an exercise routine.

Mental outlook
Be positive. Menopause is inevitable so theres no point getting depressed. Chances are if you follow the correct diet and exercise routine, you will be upbeat and cheerful. Join a hobby class, go on a trip, get a new wardrobe do what makes you happy.

Problems associated with menopause can be greatly reduced by taking herbal supplements.

Perfect Sailing Spots On The Croatian Coast

The Croatian coast is comprised of miles of pristine sandy beaches, dense greenery and pleasant sunshine. It is a piece of heaven on earth, where the playful waves of the Adriatic Sea gently embrace the warm sand, creating a terrain so beautiful that thousands of visitors rush to these idyllic spots each year. The calm waters of the Adriatic Sea are ideal for water sports and are also perfect for sailing, making the Croatian islands a nautical haven for sailing enthusiasts. Floating from one breathtaking island to another is the perfect way to explore the natural diversity of this region. Each Croatian island is a unique gem with a distinct history, culture, and wildlife. However, there are some sublime sailing spots that one should definitely visit while cruising through the Adriatic waters on the Croatian coast.

Galesnjak

Galesnjak is an uninhabited desert island located on the Pasman Channel of the Adriatic Sea. Although this island is not rich in vegetation and does not have any amenities, it is still extremely popular among couples due to its unique shape. From a bird's eye view, the shape of this island resembles a heart, which is the reason for its popularity as the Lover's Island. Galesnjak does not have much to offer in terms of architecture or wildlife, but the pebble beaches are perfect for relaxing and swimming. The absence of hotels implies that you cannot really spend the night here, therefore it is a great place to stop by when you are passing through the Pasman Channel on a sailboat. Do drop your anchor here to experience the serene, romantic charm of this island.

Hvar

Hvar is one of the most famous Dalmatian islands, which is frequented by tourists to indulge in its nightlife and to marvel at the stunning architecture of the local fortress and cathedral. The ample sunshine creates the perfect climatic conditions for the local olive trees and lavender fields to flourish. You can sail around the Paklinski islands, which are relatively less crowded and well-known for the gorgeous lush forests and deserted lagoons. Make sure to taste the locally brewed sparkling wine before you cruise away from this beautiful island. A quick stop at Vrboska, the Little Venice of this region, is also highly recommended.

Ciovo

Ciovo is a tiny Croatian island which is as popular for its beautiful beaches as it is for its vineyards and almond plantations. The architecture of this region dates back to the 15th century. The Dominican Monastery and the village churches are fine examples of the construction style from that era. The island is more densely vegetated towards the North, with cypress and pine trees covering huge portions of the landscape. Being a smaller island that is not heavily populated, Ciovo has retained a rustic charm that is hard to preserve at tourist spots. This island is ideal for spending a relaxed day by the beach or walking through the villages to visit the local convents. There are a few shipyards and harbors that can be used as docking points.

Lastovo

The island of Lastovo is yet another preserved jewel of the Adriatic region that was cordoned off for five decades, due to being the location of a military base. The island has recently opened its gates again to tourists, and it is gathering a lot of attention from culture lovers who want to soak in the enchanting history of the place. You can drop off your sailboat at one of the sheltered anchorages, provided along the coast, to enjoy the unspoiled natural beauty of this region. If you are there in time for the carnival season, then you will be able to witness brightly clad locals celebrating their folk traditions. The churches and magnificent chimneys of this island display the architecture of the past, while the fresh seafood is an unparalleled gastronomical delight.

Brac

A cruise along the Croatian coast is incomplete without making a stop at the island of Brac. The most popular tourist attraction is the golden beach of Zlatni Rat, that juts out into the brilliant blue waters like a horn-shaped projection. One can bask in the splendid sunshine or participate in water sports such as kayaking, water skiing, and parasailing. The southern part of the island offers several activities and provisions for the tourists, whereas the northern part provides a taste of the local culture. Milna is a harbor village on Brac where most tourist boats are docked. It is a quaint fishing village with tiny houses and spectacular churches. Tourists must also visit the town of Skrip to understand the historical aspects of the island, all of which are showcased at the local museum.

Croatia is known as a country with a long and strong boat building tradition. So when you are renting from local catamaran charter agencies, you are guaranteed to get a well-built vessel. So you can have all your focus on enjoying in natural beauties of the Adriatic Sea on the coast of Croatia. Have fun!

Peacock Feather Wreath

Peacock Feather Wreath

Making a peacock feather wreath is a very easy project and will result in a beautifully elegant finished product. This sort of wreath makes a beautiful adornment for your home at any time of year and can be enhanced by the addition of ornaments or left in its natural splendor.

For this project you will need a straw wreath base. The size of the wreath base which you choose to use will be a part in determining the size of the wreath. There is no right or wrong in a lot of this, it depends on what seems right to you as the creator. After you have chosen your straw wreath base, you will need to buy peacock feathers. The amount of feathers you buy will be determined by the size of your straw wreath base, the larger the wreath base, the more feathers you will need. There are great sources of peacock feathers on the internet or you may choose to visit a local craft supply store and pick out your own.

In buying a product of this kind, I usually buy a few more than I think I will actually need for my project. I find running short of supplies before a project is finished to be very frustrating and I've found that I can always add the surplus to my craft supply box and just knowing that they are there usually brings to mind some sort of fun project for which they can be used. You may also want a sharp pencil to help make openings in the straw wreath in which to place the feathers.

Before you start your wreath, you will want to look at your feathers and see if you want to cut them off at all. If you do, you will want also to trim the feathers at what will now be the quill end so that you can insert the quill itself into the wreath base. Insert the feathers into the wreath base about two thirds down. You may need a pencil at this point to create the openings for you. Set the feathers about three to four inches apart. When you have gone completely around the wreath base, you will want to go up about a half an inch, and repeat the same thing, setting these feathers over a bit so that they don't come directly over the other feathers. Repeat this for about two more rows. Then you will want to do one more row with slightly shorter feathers. This will give your wreath a fuller layered appearance.

Congratulations, you have just created a beautiful work of art wreath which is ready to be hung. Now you may decorate it if you so choose or leave it in its natural beauty. There is no right or wrong to this decision. What seems right to you as the creator is what is right.

Paso Robles wineries offer taste of Tuscany

Paso Robles wineries offer taste of Tuscany

Paso Robles wineries offer taste of Tuscany

Imagine a trip to the vineyards of Tuscany where you will drive through a sun-drenched region with vine-clad hillsides, stopping off to visit wineries where fascinating local craftsmen toil at their labor of love. At night you will retire to your villa, a shrine of elegance and testament to good taste.

Now imagine driving just a few hours from Los Angeles or San Francisco and finding much of the same experience. The Paso Robles Wine Country is fast becoming just such an alternative for sophisticated travelers who are often surprised to find such an exquisite getaway so close to home.

To be sure, Paso Robles is not going to become a world-class destination like Tuscany anytime soon instead of well over a thousand wineries in Tuscany, you'll find just about 80 in the Paso Robles area. And the overnight accommodations in the immediate area are limited compared with, say, the Napa Valley. Still, there are many inns and lodges within an hour's drive in places like Cambria, Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo and, of course, the nearby Pacific coastline is an attraction all of its own.

Happily we discovered the perfect complement to touring the local wineries an extraordinary hotel called the Carlton that has just been completely refurbished and re-opened for business in March 2005. This hotel is located in the heart of the wine country, taking up the better part of a city block in quaint downtown Atascadero. The first impression is the hotel almost seems out of place it is just as upscale as the finest Napa lodgings, yet the town of Atascadero is a simple, laid-back every-day small town with nary a designer clothing store in sight.

The Carlton Hotel is a "boutique" hotel, capitalizing on the growing popularity of boutique lodgings both in major cities and with the Carlton as a case in point sometimes out in the hinterlands. The term has come to symbolize luxury and a higher level of personalized service than many larger hotels. Like the Carlton, most boutique hotels pay a lot of attention to detail and target business travelers as well as affluent leisure travelers.

The Carlton originally opened in 1929 and was a magnet for celebrities such as Jack Benny, Bette Davis, Fred McMurray and Dick Powell. The aging hotel was recently renovated by local entrepreneur David Weyrich with the idea that it would reclaim its past glory by creating 52 individually designed guestrooms with such features as marble bathrooms, deep whirlpool baths, oversized bath towels, high thread-count cotton sheets well you get the picture.

From the moment we walked into the hotel, the feeling was more like a swank downtown San Francisco hotel than a country inn. Our guestroom seemed regal period furnishings decorated the spacious interior while the luxurious draperies and bedding added to the upscale feeling. An oversized bath area offered both the whirlpool bath and shower and a dressing area larger than most. In summary, the Carlton has added the special touches that separate the "nice" hotels from the truly "luxurious" lodgings.

But we digress. The hotel was a pleasant surprise for us, but visitors come to Atascadero and nearby Paso Robles mainly for the stunning combination of wineries and picturesque scenery. We spent a day traveling the rolling hillsides of both areas, searching out various wineries, both large and small. We probably are a bit unusual we enjoy just visiting the wineries and chatting with the winery employees and do not make a point to taste in every winery we visit. But we did taste a few and found that the wine tastings were often free compared with other regions we've visited where every winery charges for the service.

Local winery maps will help you quite a lot as you seek out the wineries actually they are something of a necessity considering the rolling hill topography and many country roads. Our preference was to read through the local winery guidebooks and pick out wineries that seemed especially interesting then go directly to those. Maybe a more efficient approach would be to just start driving and stop at whatever wineries are on your way. Either way, there are wineries here of all sizes, from larger corporate entities to Mom and Pop operations that are little more than a spare room with a few wine vats.

One of the smaller wineries we visited was the Casa de Caballos Vineyards where we talked with Scott Tobin, son of the winery's founder Dr. Thomas Morgan. While in residency at the Orange County Medical Center, Dr. Morgan experimented with fruit and berry wines as a hobby. Originally he and his wife, Sheila, just made enough wine for themselves and friends but it soon became apparent that they couldn't drink all that they produced. Today the winery has grown from one acre of grapes to six acres, and when you visit their scenic vineyards you get a bonus: it's also part Arabian horse farm, satisfying one of Sheila's lifelong passions.

Over at Turley Wine Cellars, visitors get a chance to taste what has become a "cult wine" a wine that is in limited supply and often higher priced than many competitors. We learned that Turley, which produces wines elsewhere in California, bought the old Pesenti Winery in 2001 because David Turley wanted the 80-year-old Zinfandel vines on the property. The winery does small batches of 3,000 cases or so for each of its vineyards, creating an excellent variety and high demand for the product.

When we stopped at Wild HorseWinery, pourer Kyle Coots was more than willing to talk with us about the growing demand for the Wild Horse products. The winery started about 20 years ago and has grown to be one of the top producers on the Central Coast -- seven different wines altogether. Tastings at the Wild Horse are free.

On a previous trip we stopped by EOS Estate Winery just east of Paso Robles on Highway 46, where we watched 82-year-old Stan Meltzer put on what amounted to a clinic on Paso Robles wines. Meltzer's been doing this for 16 years and he was not reluctant to share is expertise and opinions with visitors:

"Certain wines do a far better job of cleansing the mouth for the most important thing the next food," Meltzer explained. "When you bother to cook something eclectic using herbs and spices and so on and all you taste is the wine, then you've worked hard for nothing. You've overmatched your food."

Meltzer calls himself a wine "purest" because he closely matches his wines and foods. For example, the red zinfandels so prevalent in the Paso Robles area are best served with stews, pasta sauces, barbecue, French country chicken Meltzer offered a long list of options, giving his visitors plenty of food for thought.

After a day of scenery and wine education, we drove back to the Carlton for dinner. As part of the renovation, the hotel has added the fine dining signature restaurant of diVINE, which was closed during our Monday visit, and the Carlton Restaurant and Grill. The latter proved to the perfect conclusion to our day in Wine Country it's a stylish restaurant with heaping portions of gourmet-style cuisine ranging from steaks to seafood dishes, from sushi to wood-fired pizzas. This closed the deal for us on the Carlton this hotel definitely is a prime spot for couples who want a romantic weekend in Tuscany but may have to settle for A-Tuscany-dero.

Just how prevalent is stress? According to one 2014 survey by the American Institute of Stress, 77% of people regularly experience physical symptoms that are related to stress - and 73% experience psychological symptoms because of stress. A third of the population reports that they are living at an extreme stress level, and almost half felt their level of stress had increased over the past five years. The top five causes of stress were reported to be job pressure, money, health, relationships and poor nutrition.

Clearly, stressing out is far too common an occurrence in modern day life.

Sweat

One of the most common byproducts of stress is sweat. Sweat, of course, is a perfectly normal body function helpful in cooling the body off when temperatures are really high. But that sweat, or the sweat that comes from a good physical workout, is different from sweat caused by stress. And unfortunately, stress sweat smells worse.

Why should this be? Because there are two different types of glands that create sweat. The "good" sweat from going to the gym or walking on a hot summer day is produced by what are called eccrine glands.

But the apocrine glands, which are basically located under the arms and in the midsection, are the ones that get activated when a guys is feeling stressed. Sweat from eccrine glands is mostly water, but sweat from apocrine glands has a lot of fat, lipids and proteins in it. And those ingredients are high on the list for attracting bacteria. When the bacteria feed on them, they release ammonia and fatty acids, which have strong, unpleasant smell.

Male organ odor

Since apocrine glands are located in the midsection, that means stress is going to create or add to a male organ odor situation. Manhood odor is also exacerbated because of the heat generated by wearing both underwear and trousers.

Stress relief

Working to reduce stress can help reduce sweat and consequently male organ odor. There are numerous stress reduction strategies available. A few examples include:

- Dont keep feelings bottled up. It helps to "let it all out" when dealing with stress. For some people, this may mean scheduling appointments with a mental health professional; for others, regular venting time with a buddy can do wonders.

- Get physical. Often physical exertion can decrease stress. Making time to go to the gym, go out jogging or staying at home and working out in private can do wonders. And for many people, yoga in particular can be an excellent way to deal with stress.

- Find a hobby. Doing something enjoyable can take a guys mind off stressful situations. If a hobby is too much of a commitment, go to a movie (especially a comedy) or binge watch a favorite TV series.

- Self-pleasure. Yes, a guys favorite pastime can help reduce stress by releasing "feel good" hormones.

Sometimes just reducing stress cant get rid of stubborn male organ odor, so regular use of a top notch member health crme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is in order. Look for a crme with vitamin A, as this vitamins anti-bacterial properties are expert at fighting persistent odor. It also helps to find a crme with alpha lipoic acid, as this potent antioxidant can help strengthen manhood skin and make it more resilient.

Nitro RC Cars - A Guide for Beginners

Without a doubt, nitro RC cars are a lot of fun. However, as a hobby, you also need to be committed to them because they do require time to fix, clean and maintain. Fortunately, this doesn't take long to learn and with this guide, you will be able to make sure your nitro RC car always works properly and always runs at its best performance.
The first thing you need to know is that several adjustments need to made whenever you get a new model. Even if each model usually comes with details on how to make the RC car run properly and even if the details are pre-factory set, you will still need to fine-tune it on a regular basis. To do this, just turn the needle a mm counter-clockwise each time until your nitro RC cars run as smoothly as possible.
To break in the engine of your nitro RC cars properly, you have to run the first six fuel tanks slowly for several minutes per run. While doing this, you also need to ensure that the body shell is removed, so that the air can keep flowing and so that the engine can stay cool.

Another important factor would be to ensure that it is kept at half-throttle - without using full throttle - otherwise the engine might get damaged and the performance might become limited because of it. Remember: it would be bad for the engine to get very hot, so patience is key. Even if this might take a while, it will definitely be worth the effort in the end.

Lastly, make sure that you check all your car's screws every now and then. Each screw has to be screwed on tightly because they get loose every now and then and losing screws might make your RC car function badly. In worse cases, you might even lose small parts. This means that you would have to search for spare parts for your car and this can be a real hassle overall. That is why a screw locking compound would be highly recommended.

Now, there are quite a few nitro RC cars out there for you to choose from, but the best thing about them remains the same: they are very fast. In fact, they can reach up to 70 mph while doing jumps and flips, making them great cars to race with. So, regardless of which kind of nitro RC car you choose to get, you will definitely have lots of fun with it. Plus, you will enjoy the many rewards that come with this fascinating hobby, as well. Enjoy!

Nitro powered remote control helicopters

Nitro engines are the number one choice among the many types of remote control helicopters. This is due to the fact that, for their size and weight, they produce a relatively high amount of power compared to the electric ones. A nitro engine is pretty tough and is also the cheapest cost choice for a toy bird that runs on fuel. It is powered by burning nitro methane and a little bit of oil. It of course comes in different engine sizes. The bigger the engine, the bigger the rotor blade it can power and thus a bigger and more superior lift.

The advantage of nitro remote control helicopters is that all they need is fuel and youre ready to go. No time is wasted waiting around for your battery to charge or waiting for electric motors and speed controllers to cool down. If you take into account the expense of high capacity Lipo batteries used in the electric ones, you will see that a nitro one is generally less expensive. Flight times and speed are generally higher with nitro helicopters as opposed to electric helicopters. And some enthusiasts actually like the noise a nitro helicopter produces. The biggest advantage is that nitro engines are practically damage proof and thus the helicopters have a long life expectancy.

The problem with nitro remote control helicopters is that they are very noisy and can prove difficult to use within a residential setting. Nitro fuel gives off oil mist as a byproduct in the exhaust. This can flow almost everywhere and make things very messy. Unfortunately nitro remote controlled helicopters are difficult to tune and set up correctly especially for novices. This means it can stop running mid-flight if the fuel is contaminated, fuel tank gets blocked or glow plug fails. Glow fuel is also only available at certain stores and because it is a hazardous material, it is expensive and difficult to ship. Nitro helicopters have higher long term operating costs as glow fuel is more expensive than gasoline and glow plugs have to be replaced regularly. Before using a nitro helicopter one has to buy some special equipment in the beginning. These are things such as glow plug drivers. You may also have to get power panels and sometimes even electric starters depending on the manufacturer.

Nitro remote control helicopters can either come ready to fly (RTF), which means its ready for use straight out of the box or it could also come as a self-assembly kit. Nitro helicopters are difficult to use for someone who has never used a remote controlled helicopter before. A nitro helicopter in the wrong hands can be dangerous as it is easy to start a fire. It is best advised to first get lots of practice with an electric helicopter.

Before buying a nitro helicopter, shop around as there are plenty of options to choose from. You will find that prices will vary according to the manufacturer, size of the helicopter and its engine capacity. Be sure to only make purchases from reputable dealers. Nitro helicopters can be found at most hobby shops or online.

For the serious enthusiast, nitro powered remote control helicopters are the way to go as they guarantee more power, stability and control. Even though nitro helicopters are more labor intensive than other helicopters, their flying abilities are unparalleled.

New Years Resolutions Scrap 'Em! We Need REAL Change

Working with troubled teens, I have found myself with a new perspective on the whole New Years resolution racket. It isnt about these sweeping, end of year promises to do incredible things. It is about setting small goals, and sticking to them through the year. How do I know? Because the troubled teens I work with do this at different points all year long, and they are more successful than any of the resolutions I have made. They are learning long term habits for life, not merely ticking tasks off a master list.

Resolutions Versus Lifelong Habits

What is the difference between a resolution, and a habit? For starters, a resolution is a promise that you make to yourself, a commitment to complete a goal, usually a big one. People will make resolutions to stop smoking, to lose weight, to get out of credit card debt. Which is great, but ultimately most attempts fail because it is taking on so much, with such a strict deadline.

A lifelong habit is one that is developed over time. It instills positive values that enrich your life, in either small or big ways. Going back to the teens I have worked with, they will make small changes to their daily lives and commit to sticking to them. This might be exercising for 20 minutes every day. Or finishing their homework before they go out in the evenings. Maybe it is even something as simple as limited time looking at screens.

These are small habits that can be perfected over time, which become a part of their daily rituals. Learning how to develop these habits are a crucial life skill far more valuable than meeting resolutions. It is also a way to be more happy.

The Beauty Of These Habits

One of my favorite examples of a lifelong habit formed by a teen happened in my own family. My sons grades were slipping as he went through a stressful period of working on an extracurricular activity that was very important to him. Rather than make him drop this hobby, or berate him for his academic performance, my wife and I asked him to make one change. He was to dedicate 60 minutes a day, broken up or all at once, to studying.

Guess what? Immediate improvement to his grades, without losing out on his hobby time. It turns out that he had been rushing through his schoolwork, and wasnt being as careful as he should have been. Making that block of time a habit had the added benefit of slowing him down.

The 7 Habits Teens Need To Succeed

You have probably heard of the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People. What you might not know is that the authors son, Sean Covey, wrote a version specifically targeted towards teens. He posits that instilling these habits earlier lead to greater results. He suggests the following habits:

Learn To Prioritize - Not every task is as important as another. It is crucial that everyone learns to prioritize, in order to manage both time and productivity.
Dont Set Goals, Set Ends - Is it the goal that is important? Of course not! It is the end result the goal leads to. You can get a lot in life by learning to envision what it is you are wishing to get out of each life habit.
Be Proactive - Nothing happens for those who just sit around waiting. If you want good things, you have to be proactive about working for them.
Try To Find The Way For Everyone To Win - Nobody likes a win-lose situation, and even less a lose-lose situation. Learning to compromise in order to find a win-win is a great life skill that has many applications.
Listen Actively - You may have taught your teen to listen, but are they really understanding? Teaching your child to be empathetic and truly understand the view of others will give them an edge over most.
Sizzle With Synergy - It might sound like a buzzword, but synergy is an important skill. It means discovering the art of diplomacy and cooperation, working with others toward a common goal.
Rest, Rest, Rest! - One that we can all learn from is to rest once in awhile. Without breaks, no one is fresh enough to complete tasks well.

Natural Alexandrite Gemstones - A Real Investment, Indeed!

Usually natural gemstone buying is never seen as an investment. However, if one invests wisely, gemstones buying can be very profitable and remunerative too. The popular belief that a diamond is forever and it fetches up to 75% of the resale value and coloured stones have no resale value is absolutely wrong.

Conversely, investing in gem stones can be a profitable business if not just a hobby. But love for gemstones and appreciating their worth are also equally important. One should, therefore, not only look at the monetary benefits but also should be able to appreciate their beauty. If you have the money and are also a gemstone lover then this article is definitely worth a look.

Most of the gem lovers have, at some point or the other, must have heard of the natural colour changing Alexandrite gemstone. It is one of the rarest natural gemstones found which possesses a beautiful characteristic of colour change, i.e. it displays a different colour in daylight and another colour in evening light or candle light. This phenomenon along with rarity makes it very valuable. If you are interested in investing in alexandrite then it's better to learn everything about it. A single search online yields enough information for you to know everything about it.

Tips for buying natural alexandrite:

1. Trust only natural! When buying an alexandrite gemstone, one must always make sure that he/she is buying a natural alexandrite and not synthetic alexandrite( more commonly known as lab created, man made, lab origin etc). The certificate should mention the word "natural". People often end up buying synthetic gemstone paying very high price and later repent on their decision. As technology rapidly develops, more and more synthetic alexandrites are flooding into the market, which are becoming increasingly difficult to identify. In other words, natural alexandrites are getting rarer day by day and hence it's becoming more valuable.

2. Always insist on authentication. Always buy Alexandrite with a certificate, from a reputed gemological laboratory and not just from the dealer who is selling it, mentioning its authenticity. These days it's very easy to print out a piece of paper and laminate it, calling it a certificate. Many customers get carried away by this laminated and printed sheet .So one must make sure that the certificate is from a reputed source.

3. Quality comes first! Always go for quality rather than quantity. A good piece, though a small one, is any day better than a big gem with lower clarity and colour.

4. Choose the cutting edge. As far as possible go in for a proper cut gemstone. Shallow cut gems lighten the colour, while very deeply cut gems, on the other hand, darken the colour so much that the change in colour is rarely visible. Always go for the best cut your money can buy!

5. As far as possible dont go for any enhanced gemstones. Gemstones on which enhancements(treatments) are done tend to loose its market value over a period of time as newer and newer enhancement technology comes up. If you know what enhancement is being done on the stone and are sure of its quality then buy it, otherwise buy un treated alexandrites only.

Finally to conclude, if you are a gem lover or collecting gemstones is your hobby, you'll just love this amazing colour changing gemstone in your collection. An investment you will never regret!
