Why The 2nd Amendment is so Important to Our Freedom

Why The 2nd Amendment is so Important to Our Freedom

The 2nd Amendment forms part of the Bill of Rights of the United States of America. This particular amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms which means that the people has the right to bear arms for their defense, their own state, or the United States, and of course to kill games. It prohibits any law to be passed with the aim of disarming the people unless a crime has been committed, or they pose a real danger to the public. Until this day, the 2nd Amendment still stands despite the censorship of its detractors and seems that it will be staying for good under the protection of the Bill of Rights.

When it was first drafted, the idea is to have a universal militia during the 1790's because it is very expensive for the government to bring guns to all of the members of the militia. They say that this right originated from the English courts where the king requires his subjects to bear firearms for military duty. During that time, they don't have a regular army and police force so certain men had to keep watch and ward at night to keep the peace in the communities, hence the need to keep an assault rifle in the house of certain men. These men are tasked to ward off bandits and to capture and confront suspicious persons.

The only difference is, the 2nd Amendment does not discriminate against social classes unlike with the English where only the wealthy are able to bear arms. It should also be emphasized that in arming the militia, which is a natural defense of any free country against invasions, or any uprising that will jeopardize the peace and democracy in a country, the right against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers within or outside the country can be impede and eventually discouraged. Some historians and philosophers say and believe that injustice in a country will be exerted unless forcibly resisted. Having the right to bear arms gives the ammunition to make sure that injustice does not happen - figuratively and literally speaking.

With the advancement in technological warfare, the classes of guns supported by the 2nd amendment have also grown in number. It includes ak47 and m16 riffles. The registration process has also improved with all the requirements necessary for a person to acquire a gun. There are also individuals who are prohibited from carrying a gun because the court does not see them fit to carry a weapon that may cause harm to a multitude of people.

Even if the 2nd Amendment was created to further the rights and liberty of the people, it can also very easily cause the violation of the rights of people facing the other end of the barrel. Despite this possibility, the 2nd Amendment has done more good than harm to the people and the state. There are enough regulations to keep it and its consequences in check. All in all, it has promoted liberty and uphold the rights of the people.

Why Should You Have a Dashboard Camera

Why Should You Have a Dashboard Camera

Dashboard cameras or dash cams are small cameras mounted on the dashboard to record video either of the front of the vehicle, or the interior of the car. The camera is powered from the cigarette lighter outlet or it can be hardwired to the battery. Recorded video is stored on a portable SD card and can be downloaded by the driver to a mobile phone or laptop with a USB cable. Dashboard cameras come with different features depending on the model, some of which include battery backup, geo location that records the vehicles location, wide angle view, wireless transmission, night vision and motion detection. Police vehicles have used dashboard cameras for many years to record traffic stops and these devices are now finding widespread adoption among ordinary motorists. Read on to know why you should use a dashboard camera.

Get Video Evidence in Case of an Accident

Getting in an accident is the last thing that any motorist wants when he sets out on a drive. However, it is a fact that roads have gotten unsafe with a rising number of vehicles hitting the road each year. If you get involved in an accident or see one happen in front of you, it can be difficult getting an eyewitness to support your version of events, especially if the accident happens at night on a deserted road. The dashboard camera is your silent companion as the video footage it captures may prove conclusive in case you have to get legal help. Video Records Help with Insurance Claims and Traffic Violations

Insurance companies may sometimes dispute accident claims on the basis of unclear evidence or by alleging driver impairment because of alcohol. Video footage can help the driver back up his claim and ensure a patient hearing from the insurer. If the insurer still rejects your accident claim, your video footage could be useful if you present your case before higher authorities. In the future, insurance companies may offer discounts to motorists who install dash cams.

It also acts as a reverse camera, so you can spot other vehicles, pedestrians and various other obstructions whenever you back up.

If you find yourself stopped by a traffic policeman for speeding or light jumping while driving and you feel he is being unfair to you, you could offer to show your video footage to him before he writes you a ticket. If the policeman is convinced of your innocence, you could get yourself out of a hefty fine.

Protect Yourself from Fraud

Countries like Russia have seen large adoption of dashboard cameras because of scamsters. The scam goes like this, a pedestrian falls on to your car while it approaches a traffic light or on a busy street and claim they have been injured even if there is no wrong doing on the drivers part. The man and his accomplices then extort money from the driver to treat the victims injuries. Having a dashboard camera makes sure you have a video record that you can present to the police if you ever fall prey to such schemes.

Record Your Long Journeys

You can get a fine video record of your long trips in the car with dashboard cameras. While driving, you dont have to stop and take out your camera if you see something interesting on the road, as your trusty dashboard camera captures it for you.

Your Quirky Video Might Go Viral!

A meteor strike in Russia, a near collision in Korea and a would-be scamster trying hard to be hot by a car all became huge viral hits online last year because of dashboard cameras capturing the captivating events. You too could become the owner of the next viral video hit if you manage to capture something interesting on your dashboard camera.

What You Seek is Not in the Yellow Pages

What You Seek is Not in the Yellow Pages

In the search for what excites you in life, there is no thing to do or possess, no place to go, nothing at all that can replace the essential need and ultimate foundation of good companionship to make life in general more interesting and satisfying.

Certainly, we can be very happy alone, and enjoy many things, but if there is no companionship of a high quality in your life, a black hole will eventually develop. This is an emotional hole that expresses as a lack of motivation, not being able to find anything interesting to do, and a general apathy towards life which if not attended to sucks you in deeper and deeper, as you may already have seen in yourself or others.

To have high quality friends who meet or exceed your own intellectual, skill and interest level is essential to a complete life. The more such friends the better. This is very different than the many people that are referred to as friends in normal life, people you see once in a while to do things with to pass time or fill the need of companionship as much as possible, but they just do not give that completeness. We can see this in depressed people who have several such friends yet still feel alone. You may have encountered this, feeling alone in a crowd or even at a party.

Of course I am speaking of a mentally relatively normal person, not someone who has psychological hangups which make them avoid people by convincing themselves that social contact is a waste of time and in this way avoid dealing with their distorted inner life. On the other hand, many healthy people are alone and make that statement because of the overall valid disappointment with people they meet.

Buddha said, 100% of your spiritual growth is dependent on the sangha (spiritual community). and Christ says in the bible; When two or more of you are gathered, I will be there. The Jews have a minimum of 10 men required to hold many prayer rituals. The Sufi teacher is to have 10 or 12 higher level students in the inner circle. There are many examples of such things, even in Star Wars, the master must have a disciple. Fiction is often based on truth.

There is so much talk about finding your passion and your true purpose in life, your special place and talent, and so many people selling programs to help the poor lost person find that special purpose which often do not work. Even I say that I can help people find the work they should do in life, and I have helped many people, although not all. After many years of observation, I have come to the conclusion that it usually works when a person has good friends and true companions who are suitable to their character and are loyal enough to fill the natural need.

In the search for the perfect vocation, it was usually found in working with the right kind of people, suitable good companions having some involvement in the activity. I believe that it is more the companionship that made the vocation satisfying than the work itself. Because you are more likely to find suitable friends through a common interest, people have confused the activity as the source of happiness rather than the companionship as the point of what they really seek. Of course, sometimes the work can be satisfying, but in reality, that person has the right companions in their life, even if not involved in their work which give the happiness in life.

We need friends for two reasons, give and take. A true friend will be there whenever you need, as my closest friend Michael was there for me. I was about to leave on a one year journey and still had some business ventures that needed some attention. I called Michael and asked to meet with him because I have a very big favor to ask. He said yes, just bring over what you need me to do. I told him that it was very big and he should not just agree so quickly, but his reply was very clear, If you need it done I will do it, whatever it is. That is a true friend. We need to know there is someone there who we can rely on, and also someone we can help, so that we serve a purpose. Give and Take.

My proposition here is to say that much of the misery that is attributed to work, or lack of purpose and not having anything you are passionate about has little to do with what you do and all to do with who is in your life. As I have said, you are looking in the Yellow Pages for something that is not listed there. We are looking for things to do when the real problem is not what to do but who to do it with.

The conundrum is of course, how to find those special friends who can give your mind and heart the intellectual and emotional satisfaction that it needs. We need both, mind and heart, because it is when the two combine that they form an alchemical mixture which is the food of the soul. Either one alone simply is not satisfactory to feed the great hunger of companionship that we all need.

Why would a master need a disciple more than the disciple needs the master? There is a story of a great spiritual teacher who cried more deeply when his closest disciple died than when his own child died. This may sound strange, but it is a story after all and expresses the need of the mind and heart combination as being even more powerful than the heart felt love of a parent to a child without the intellectual stimulation. One of my teachers said; A good teacher is hard to find, but a good student is even harder. He often referred to me as having found a long lost son.

My own experience is the same. My creativity and ability to bring forth a higher quality of information is relative to the quality of the student or person asking the question. The point of saying this is for you to know that you may have a lot more creativity and talent in you, if it is given a suitable reason to come forth, someone who will appreciate it, and you.

There are many examples to prove this, a baby left untouched and without any affection has been known to die. The great punishment to prisoners is solitary confinement. And on the other side, the most profound spiritual practice is total isolation.

Now we have found something interesting, the very same thing, being totally alone, can kill or be a very powerful step towards spiritual enlightenment. This only proves the intense power of companionship because everything must have its complete opposite in order for it to exist.

If companionship is so powerful a force in our life, and the lack of it can cause so much pain, then it simply must have its equal and opposite effect when used with wisdom and understanding, that of total spiritual liberation. Death or eternal life, the question is the wisdom to know the power it holds, and work with it correctly.

The difficulty in finding such friends is clear, we all know about it, and this is a good explanation as to why there is so much suffering and misery in the developed world. I asked a Russian friend who had immigrated to Canada long before Russia opened to the world if he missed anything in Russia. There was no hesitation, Friends. His explanation makes perfect sense. When life is tough, as it was in communist Russia, the only thing you have is your friends and family, so relationships become very close. But in the western world with all the possessions and freedom we have, everyone is more interested in their things and protecting them to allow anyone to get too close emotionally.

I have found that with my schools in Canada, USA, Germany and New Zealand. People just do not have time in these developed (if you can call it that) countries to devote to building deep and meaningful relationships. Everyone is so busy with all their toys and activities that despite their claims as to what is most important to them, they are always too busy to put in more than the slightest effort towards building what they need the most. People or possessions and keeping your safe distance not getting too close, what is more important?

Choose your priorities and then put in all your effort and energy into building something of quality and substance, a focused group, business, hobby or charity for example that will draw others to you, or be willing to put yourself wherever that thing or place of quality may be. Your attachments to the things you have, the place you live, to anything that binds you to the life you live, if it is lacking in something that you just cannot describe but know something big is missing, those attachments which give you comfort are also destroying you by keeping you from the right companions.

Certainly there is a need for a purpose and work or activity, but my point is that true companionship is the core of happiness. If you cannot find that special purpose or place or job in your life, that you love and gives you a passion, and you identify with this concept of friendship and companionship as the ultimate foundation of happiness, what are you willing to do towards finding those people, or creating a place or group of the right people. How much are you willing to give or do towards having and being a part of that place? If you know what you need, why are you not doing everything you can to get it?

All it takes is a willingness to put people before possessions, and the courage to give your way of viewing life a change from confused independence which brings division towards mutual dependance which melts into unity, and let your heart, now self-protecting with walls of learnt concepts, open so it can get the satisfying food it needs to feel safe and content.

Are you like Nassrudin who was looking for his keys in the garden when his neighbor asked what he was doing.

I am looking for my keys, said Nassrudin.
I shall come and help you then.
After an hour, John asked Nassrudin if he was sure he lost the keys in the garden.
No, I lost them in the house.
Then why are we looking here in the garden?
Because the light is better out here.

It is impossible to find what you need if you are looking for something else.

What Do You Have To Lose

What Do You Have To Lose

Last week, Marion OConnor was awarded her Gold Medal at the United States Dressage Federation Convention (USDF). I had the privilege of accompanying her to the glamorous USDF Award Ceremony and am so excited for her. Marion is an inspiration and a role model of hard work with diligence and persistence, driven by her passion for horses, she achieved more than she thought she can.

I also had the privilege in 2015 of sharing Marions inspiring journey to achieve the Silver Medal here .

Fascinated by Marion and horses, I asked her a few questions:

What inspired you to ride dressage?
I wanted to be a better rider and do something meaningful with my horse, something that builds a relationship. In dressage, you improve your horse systematically and I found the discipline is entirely built on trust.

Looking back, Marion shares with me, I remember my first horse was a racehorse off the race track. She was very spooky and unreliable, however, the systematic work got her back on track and we built a partnership. She made me a better and more sympathetic rider. Her name was Raven.

In the years following, I trained three other horses and always encountered a roadblock trying to move into the Third Level that requires a more profound understanding of higher dressage. I used to blame it on the quality of the horse and each time I tried to find a better one to start all over again. Finally, in 2004 I met my soul mate, Karat. I loved that horse so much that I was unwilling to give up when I reached that stumbling point with her. It took me four years to push beyond that barrier I did not give up, I was friendly persistent and consistently focused on improving our performance step by step.

Pretty soon, with the help of new trainers/coaches, I was able to advance to the next level and from there we steadily progressed and moved up to a level of difficulty required in international competition.

What I learned from Marion and from my own experience is it takes a long time to train a dressage horse, it forges a bond between rider and horse, and it is an amazingly rewarding and enjoyable journey.

July 2017, about five months ago, Marion remembers she was still two steps away from the highest level of dressage that is seen and performed at the Olympics. At a point when I was undecided whether to go one step back or ahead, one of my mentors advised me to step ahead TWO steps and ride my first Grand Prix at the upcoming show which was only two weeks away. This idea caught me by surprise as I had not prepared for it at all. I felt I needed at least another year to prepare for this test, and said Im not ready, maybe in another yearthats a crazy idea.

Marions mentor asked her: What do you have to lose? Marion shares: I said my face and then I went home and thought about it. I thought what would be the worst thing that could happen? Break a leg? Thats highly unlikely. Getting humbled? Probably and I will get over that. Butif.I came to the conclusion the benefits outweighed the risk. I decided it was the right thing to do because I really did not have much to lose and everything to gain.

Marion took action and was willing to take imperfect action and push herself beyond her comfort zone. Successful sports and performance coaches agree that its the start that stops most people, the fear to move beyond the comfort zone, the limiting beliefs that keep us from pursuing what we really want. Marion is a perfect example that you can overcome all of this and its up to you to choose to stay in your comfort zone, where you are, or reach new levels of performance and success.

So what was the next step? You have to understand the highest accomplishment for a rider in dressage is to receive the gold medal which proves skills at the highest level of the sport. Prerequisites are two qualifying scores, each at three different international levels, and Marion already had four. All Marion was missing were two scores at Grand Prix level which was a higher level test than all her previous ones.

So it happened! Karat and Marion rode two successful Grand Prix tests in the 2017 season which brought her the Gold Medal.

How did it feel I asked Marion, riding the test and knowing you qualified?
Marion notes, I felt a deep gratitude to my horse and a feeling of accomplishment. Initially, I felt an utter feeling of disbelief. Despite some errors in my test I made those mistakes I was worried about our whole performance was respectable. I learned that I need to remember other people make mistakes too and how important it is to focus on what I want my ride to be instead of worrying about my potential mistakes (in advance). Riding my first Grand Prix allowed me to experience it and feel my strengths and weaknesses. Now I am much more focused on what I need to do to improve. I feel far more ready for the next step.

What Are The Different Types Of Surgeries

What Are The Different Types Of Surgeries

Surgery is a branch of medicine that engages operations in the treatment of diseases or injuries. It can involve a range of activities like cutting, suturing abrading or changing of different body tissues and organs.

Development of technology has influenced the medical arena dramatically. New kinds of surgeries have come into existence to treat a number of diseases that were not possible in earlier times. Highly trained surgeons are becoming more equipped to deliver the best possible outcome for the patient. There is an overall enhancement in skill, technical expertise, and surgical technology.

In order to guide you in more detail, here is an alphabetical list of the most common surgical operations performed all over the world:

Appendectomy

This is a removal of appendix through surgical means. The appendix is a small tube that comes out of the large intestine. It is done to treat acute appendicitis. This is precisely acute inflammation of this tube due to infection.

Bariatric Surgery

This is commonly referred to weight-loss surgery. It is an ideal option for people encountering extreme obesity.

Breast Biopsy

This is a diagnostic test which entails removal of tissue or cells for further examination under a microscope. The same technique is also used to remove abnormal breast tissue. It may be performed using a needle to extract the tissue.

Cardiovascular Surgery

This is a surgical treatment of diseases and disorders occurring in heart and blood vessels. Such examples include open heart surgery like coronary artery bypass and vascular surgery like femorotibial bypass grafting.

Debridement of Wound, Burn or Infection

This involves removal of foreign material or dead, damaged or infected tissue from a wound or burns through surgical means. Removal of damaged tissue allows it to heal more effectively.

Endocrine Surgery

This is a sub-category of general surgery that targets predominantly on conditions relating thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

Free Skin Graft

This involves removing healthy skin from one part of the body to repair damaged parts. These are performed as a result of burns or injuries. They are usually performed when the area is too large to be repaired by natural healing or stitching.

General surgery

This is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal organs like intestines, colon, liver, stomach, and gallbladder. It even entails breast surgery and hernias.

Gynaecology

This refers specifically to surgical dealing with female reproductive systems like uterus, ovaries, and vaginas.

Low back pain surgery

This can have a number of causes including abnormal development of backbone, stress on the back or a physical disorder that negatively impacts the bones of the spine. This surgery is dependent on the diagnosis.

Neurosurgery

This surgery is associated with the treatment of mental disorders, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.

Ophthalmology

This is a medical specialty mainly targeting treatment of eyes. Conditions can include conjunctivitis, glaucoma, and cataracts.

Orthopedics

Orthopedic surgery is for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of injuries of the musculoskeletal system including bones, spine, joints, ligaments, and muscles.

Otolaryngology (ENT)

This is the medical and surgical treatment of head and neck including ears, nose, and throat.

Plastic And Reconstructive Surgery

This is a surgical specialty that mainly targets the repair, restoration, and improvement of conditions or injuries to skin external features resulting from disease injury or natural defects.

Thoracic

This surgical specialty primarily focuses on treatment of disorders relating to the chest which includes the ribs and the lungs.

Urology

Problems that are associated with the urinary tract including kidney, prostate, and bladder are addressed through means of urology.

Vascular surgery

This surgery treats diseases of vascular system or veins, arteries and is managed by minimally-invasive catheter procedures and of course, surgical reconstruction.

U.S. president-to-be Barack Obama is a child of divorce

U.S. president-to-be Barack Obama is a child of divorce

WASHINGTON -- Countless words have already been written about the racial barrier broken in the recent U.S. federal election. Barack Obama, who will be sworn in as the 44th president on January 20, is the first African-American to be elected to the nation's highest office. But there's another, less obvious aspect of Obama that he shares with another minority of Americans who occasionally get the short end of the stick in our society, and it may affect the way he runs the country in subtle ways: Obama is a child of divorce -- and of a stepfamily.

In this and other ways, the incoming president represents a new generation in the White House.

Obama, 47, grew up during a period in which divorce and the non-traditional family became less of a stigma in American society. His parents, Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, divorced when he was only three, and he only saw his father (who moved back to Kenya) once more before the latter was killed in a car accident in 1982. Dunham later married an Indonesian student, Lolo Soetoro, and gave birth to Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.

So Obama has direct, first-hand familiarity with the sorts of issues faced by much of modern American society -- including the 9.2% of U.S. households headed by single mothers and 28% of children growing up in single-parent homes, according to the Huffington Post. One hopes this will motivate him to help the country's non-traditional families during his presidency.

"Being president is a piece of cake compared to going through a Washington Divorce lawyer Don Gordon, the creator of the Children in the Middle program for children of divorce, told the Post. "This resilience serves [children] well in dealing with lengthy stressful situations... They can tough it out, no matter how bad it gets."

Jeannette Lofas, who runs the Stepfamily Foundation in New York City, told the same paper that she wants the new president to support funding to measure the impact of Colorado divorce law on American life. "In stepfamily life," she said, "children reside in one house and visit another. This impacts [sic] the economics of both households, as well as the family relationships."

Obama recently discussed his unconventional upbringing, and how it has affected his marriage, in an interview with the Huffington Post. "A part of me was wondering what a strong, reassuring family life would look like," he told the paper, "while [my wife] Michelle, in a way, wanted to break from that model... I think that in a certain way, I've tried all my life to fabricate a family through stories, memories, friends, or ideas. Michelle's family life was different, very stable with two parents, a stay-at-home mom... and I think that in a certain way, we complement each other, we represent two common models of family
life in this country. One very stable and strong, another that frees itself from the constraint of a traditional family, travels, separates, [and] is very mobile."

Judging from his political success, Obama's campaign slogan, "Yes We Can," applies to people who grew up in broken or blended families as much as to racial minorities or any other Americans.

President-elect Barack Obama was born in Honolulu and spent part of his childhood in Indonesia. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991 and married Michelle Obama the following year. He served as a U.S. senator for three years and is also the author of two autobiographical books, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance (1995) and The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream (2006).

Toy-Grade vs. Hobby-Grade

Toy-Grade vs. Hobby-Grade

If you walk up to any stranger on the street and ask them if they know what a radio controlled car is, the answer will most often be a BIG smile and an affirmative "yes!" In fact, most of us probably have had the thrill of owning a radio controlled car at some point in our lives when we were growing up. Maybe you received one for your birthday or maybe "Santa Claus" left one for you under the tree. Maybe you dont even remember how you got it; you just remember all the fun you had playing with it. Well some time has passed since then. Youre a little older now and your radio controlled car is since long gone but by golly every time you see one in a toy store somewhere you get the urge to buy it, bring it home, and rekindle those fond memories. "But radio controlled cars are for kids!" you tell yourself. Not so fast my friend. The world of radio controlled cars has something for everyone and regardless of whether you are four or forty-four, you are bound to find a radio controlled "vehicle" (yes, I said vehicle) that will bring back that BIG smile. You see, radio controlled vehicles have come a long way since you were a kid. Now-a-days there are radio controlled cars, trucks, planes, boats, and even tanks! Some models are simple to operate and keep things very basic while others have more intricate engineering and design and take a bit more skill to operate. Keeping all this in mind there are a few basic things you should know about radio controlled vehicles before you go online or to your local hobby store to purchase one.

One of the first things you should know is the difference between "toy-grade" and "hobby-grade" radio controlled vehicles. In the world of radio controlled vehicles the term "toy-grade" is often used to describe vehicles of the pre-assembled type typically found in discount stores and consumer stores. Sometimes they referred to as "Radio Shack cars". Toy-grade models are typically cheaper than hobby-grade models, around $50$100 cheaper than an entry-level electric hobby class vehicle. Toy-grade models are easier to operate and easier to set up than the simplest hobby-grade ready-to-run vehicles (RTR's). Toy-grade models are also relatively safer as most models are capable of only about 8-10 mph. While ease of use and low price are some of toy-grade models biggest advantages, they do have a few disadvantages. Toy-grade models are typically manufactured with a focus on design coupled with reducing production costs. Toy-grade models are not made with any parts that are repairable, replaceable, or interchangeable. When one component on the vehicle fails, typically the entire vehicle must be thrown away. Toy-models are generally built with small, weak motors and are powered by either alkaline or rechargeable batteries which translate to shorter run times and lower top speeds. All things considered, toy-grade models are an excellent choice for younger children under the age of twelve and adults whom just want to keep things simple are not overly concerned with the disposability factor that comes with toy-grade models.

But if you see yourself becoming seriously involved in the sport of radio controlled vehicles, perhaps even racing someday, then you may want to familiarize yourself with "hobby-grade" models. Hobby-grade models are more advanced in design and are built to be durable, rugged, and customizable. Unlike their toy-grade cousins, hobby-grade models have standardized motors, actual working suspensions, and separate electronic components that are individually replaceable if they fail. Hobby-grade models are either powered by an electric motor and battery or an engine that runs on fuel. Depending on the model you choose, speeds between 20mph 70mph are quite common. In fact, the current top speed record is held by Nic Case at 161.76 mph! Generally, even the slowest Hobby grade RC vehicle will outperform the "best" of toy-grade variety. The biggest advantages of hobby-grade models are better speed, durability, more handling control, and excellent overall performance. However, just as their toy-grade cousins, hobby-grade models do have a few disadvantages as well: cost, repair and maintenance, time-commitment. Hobby-grade models are generally more expensive to get into with prices ranging from as low as $100 to well over $500, depending on the model. Hobby-grade models WILL require repairs. With many models reaching top speeds of 50+ mph it is inevitable that crashes WILL occur and things WILL break and will either need to be repaired or replaced, adding to the cost of owning the vehicle. Also, while electric engine models do not require much adjusting other than keeping your battery packs charged, the same cannot be said for fuel-powered models. Fuel-powered engines require frequent adjustments and fine tuning in order to ensure they are burning fuel adequately and running in peak condition. And if all these things sound just a little bit time consuming, your assumption is correct. Hobby-grade models absolutely DO take more time to assemble, learn, repair, maintain, and keep running. However, do not let these factors dissuade you from hobby-grade models, for these very same factors are the reason that hobby-grade enthusiast love the sport! They LOVE these "disadvantages" as they allow them to be more hands-on with their vehicle and customize it to his or her exact liking and ultimately making their vehicle uniquely their own.
Whichever path you take as your first step into the RC hobby is up to you. Many in the RC hobby have just one or two vehicles they continually tweak, upgrade, and modify while others specialize in certain types of RC vehicles such as large scale, micro, vintage, just boats, or just touring cars that they buy ready-to-run or build themselves. Still others may have a wide-ranging collection of both toy-grade and hobby-grade RCs of all types and sizes. Your approach is your own based on time, money, and interests.
